Taylor Bow Shares Daniela's Legacy on 6PR

Daniela Dwyer Foundation Director Taylor Bow recently joined 6PR radio host Jamie Burnett to discuss the deeply personal story behind the Foundation — and how Daniela's legacy is helping create a new era of brain cancer care.

Taylor Bow during a live interview at 6PR Perth radio studio

During the interview, Taylor reflected on the devastating experience that led to the establishment of the Daniela Dwyer Foundation and explained how the organisation is now expanding its work beyond research funding to help bring emerging advances directly to clinicians and patients.

Taylor also discussed how the Foundation has grown since it was established in Daniela's memory in 2022. What began as a deeply personal response to tragedy has become a committed movement focused on accelerating progress in brain cancer diagnosis, treatment and patient access.

Taking Innovation Beyond the Laboratory

During the interview, Taylor explained that funding promising research remains essential — but research alone is not enough.

A medical breakthrough can only improve lives when clinicians understand how to use it and patients can access it.

This recognition has led DDF to broaden its mission through two interconnected areas of support: clinician education and compassionate patient access.

Through its Clinician and Oncologist Educational Grants, DDF aims to help Western Australian medical professionals learn about emerging diagnostic technologies and incorporate them into clinical practice.

The Foundation's Compassionate Access Program is being expanded to assist patients who may otherwise be unable to access advanced testing because of cost, location or clinical-trial eligibility requirements.

“For patients with an aggressive cancer, delays can have enormous consequences. More frequent testing may allow doctors to identify treatment resistance earlier and make informed changes before valuable time is lost.”

The objective is not simply to extend life, but to improve the quality of the time patients have by reducing unnecessary side effects wherever possible.

Carrying Daniela's Story Forward

The interview provided an important opportunity to take Daniela's story to a wider audience and explain why the Foundation's work remains so urgent.

While brain cancer continues to have a devastating impact on young Australians and their families, Taylor's message was one of determination and hope: Daniela's legacy is driving action, supporting progress and helping create a better future for those who face the disease.

Every conversation helps build awareness. Every person who hears Daniela's story helps carry her legacy forward.
